The final welding of the frame was completed on the 23rd.
Final assembly of components is taking place this week.
November 18th, 2005
We have finished the final milling of all the aluminum pieces of the chair. Next week we will work on finishing the tack welding for all pieces and start final welding and assembling.
We also finished all of the CNC mill work.
November 10th, 2005
We have finished rough cutting our aluminum tubing stock. A few of the pieces have been milled down to the final dimensions with rough joint connections as shown in the figure to the right. The next step is milling out the remaining dimensions and joints and assembling the frame on the jig for welding.
November 6th, 2005
The jig was completed and is being stored on North Campus. The jig is a structural wood assembly that will allow for the frame to be assembled and held in place for welding
November 4th, 2005
Our second design review was held in the Dow building. We presented our final design concept and the engineering validation.
November 3rd, 2005
The aluminum tubing is now bent. Next week we will begin milling the tubing for assembly and making the connection plates.
October 25th, 2005
We have created our preliminary Bill of Materials. Many components will change based on our final design, but we have begun to order materials.
October 21st, 2005
Our first design review was held in the Dow building. We have finished our customer research and benchmarking. We presented our initial Alpha Design.
December 7th, 2005
The chair is finished. The chair sports a new bright orange paint job as shown. Brakes have been installed for the drive wheels. A seat
bottom and back were built and leg and seat belts were added.
